Summer’s last gasp — a paperpiecing treat

DSC00403 car hop tray pairIf you live in the north, Labor Day marks the end of summer.   Surely we will have some more gloriously warm days scattered in with the coming frosty ones,  so you still have yet a chance to go to a drive-in, crank down your window and have the car hop bring you a tray loaded with goodies including, of course, a sundae with a cherry on top.

Claw back a bit of summer :  make this 15″ x 15″ pattern and enjoy a car-hop sundae all year long, or give it to a favorite friend!

The pattern uses two techniques… straight-line paper piecing, and applique for the frothy parts.  You’ll get 2 sets of patterns, one that makes the background with only straight seams and a second that is what you see above with all the curved lines (and calories!)

The $8 download has, besides the patterns themselves, suggested fabric amounts and a printed set of directions including links to the folded paperpiecing tutorial on this blog as well as two links to other blogs for a look at two different approaches to the applique portion of the design.
