With some pieces as large as a foot across, this paper piecing project gives you an elephant-sized pieced panel in no time at all. The pattern calls for 10 colors.. a couple for the tusks, a couple for the background and the rest a variety of elephant-colored grays or browns. The finished size of the elephant center is 32″ w by 29″ high. I added ombre grass fabric for the background and borders… piecing together what I had from the estate collection of a quilting friend. The borders I leave up to you, but the elephant pattern you are welcome to download for $5. It consists of a color chart, a piecing sequence map, and a dozen pages of line drawings to fit together for the pattern. I made mine by printing in reverse on freezer paper, but a couple of other techniques will work perfectly as well.
